Proposed reaction mechanism for the VioC catalytic cycle. Hydrogen transfer from the β-CH2 group of arginine, by a reactive ferryl-oxo intermediate, yields substrate and Fe(III)-OH radicals that recombine under formation of (2S,3S)-hydroxyarginine.
