Category Definition
Trunk varices Dilated, tortuous trunks of the long or short saphenous vein or their first or second order branches
Reticular varices Dilated, tortuous, subcutaneous veins not belonging to the main trunk or its major branches
Hyphenweb varices Intradermal varices (venous telangiectasia)

All three categories were graded depending on the degree and extent of tortuosity and prominence of veins by using standard reference photographs
