Translation of this protein appears to begin 7 codons upstream of the start codon indicated by the genome annotation, making the protein 403 residues in length rather than 396. The longer sequence, unlike the shorter one, is predicted to have a signal peptide by LipoP, consistent with our experimental evidence showing that the protein is located in the periplasm.
