Average generation of ATP by 16 L. monocytogenes strains in the VBNC state were monitored by measuring ATP concentration in the cells directly from microcosm water (T0) and after 1 h of incubation in BHI (T1). BHI as negative control showed no variation in ATP concentration. The standard deviation is indicated.
