Striatal levels of the serotonin metabolite, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, are decreased in juvenile mice exposed to manganese. Levels of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) were decreased in (A) juvenile mice (days 20–34) exposed to 30 mg/kg MnCl2 but no changes in 5-HIAA levels were detected in mice exposed to MnCl2 as (B) adults (weeks 12–20) or (C) juveniles and adults (days 20–34 and weeks 12–20).
