Anatomy of a multidetector CT scanner.

A single radiation source and the multi channel detector are contained within the scanner gantry (G) 180 degrees from each other. A cone-shaped beam of radiation passes through the patient to the detector. The table on which the patient lies moves through the gantry during the scan.
