Specificity of PgtA in extracts. Extracts were prepared from stationary phase pgtA-null and parental Ax3 cells and incubated with purified PgtA and UDP-[3H]Gal. The reaction mixture was subjected to SDS-PAGE. After fixation, the gel lanes were cut into 30–45 slices, and incorporated radioactivity was determined by liquid scintillation counting.
