RA refers to the intergenic region between fliR and rcsA, and deletion numbers refer to base pairs to the 3′ of fliR after the stop codon TAA. FLAG subscripts refer to epitope tags placed either at the 5′ or 3′ end of the indicated genes. L and BAD superscripts refer to fliL or PBAD promoters driving sense or anti-sense transcription of the indicated genes, respectively. T refers to the 426 bp rrnB T1T2, # to the 6 bp substitution at −10 of AS promoter.
