Activated p38 induces Bax gene expression. Cells (3 × 10⁶) were treated with SPE B (20 μg/ml) without (A) or with (B) SB203580 (10 μm) for the indicated times or PBS for 4 h. Total RNA was prepared and analyzed by RT-PCR for Bax mRNA expression. β-Actin was an internal control. Cells (2 × 10⁵) were also treated with SPE B or G308S (20 μg/ml) with or without anti-Fas antibody (0.5 μg/ml) for 10 h. Cell lysates were immunoblotted using anti-Bax antibody. β-Actin was an internal control (C).
