NEAA, but not EAA, promotes FFA-induced apoptosis in H4IIEC3 cells. Shown is the effect of medium NEAA and EAA levels on palmitate-induced apoptosis. H4IIEC3 cells were incubated with or without 400 μm palmitate under varying amino acid compositions for 24 h, and then cell viability and caspase-3/7 activity were determined. Medium EAA (0.8 mm) and NEAA (1.35 mm) mixtures were prepared based on the physiological amino acid compositions presented in Table 1 and supplemented into amino acid-free medium according to the indicated magnifications.
