LPS injury results in cortical neuronal cell loss and reduced neurofilament. Eight weeks following injection with vehicle or LPS, brain sections were labeled with NeuN before stereology-based analysis. LPS lesioning resulted in a significant reduction in cortical neuronal cells, as compared with vehicle control at 8 weeks (A–C). This neuronal cell loss was accompanied by a reduction in immunoreactivity of NF200 following threshold analysis in the LPS-lesioned animals, as compared with the vehicle control animals (D–F).
