Binding modes. (A) Anchoring of the hydrophilic part of the probe at the protein surface. (B) Binding of the probe at the interface. The hydrophobic moiety of the probe is buried in a nonpolar region of the protein, while the hydrophilic function of the probe interacts with charged residues at the protein surface.
