Bacteriol. 82:106–109. 1961.—By modifying conventional media to include blood, mannitol, and fluorescein amine, staphylococci may be isolated and identified directly. Staphylococcus aureus, mannitol positive, fluoresces, whereas Staphylococcus epidermidis, mannitol negative, does not.
