Either no base-linker, the base-linker-pTp, or the base linker-oligodeoxynucleotide conjugate was crosslinked to (a) phage displaying SNase or (b) the control protein Fab 39-A11. Columns 1–4 show immobilization on streptavidin beads. Immobilization was examined either by phage titering of the beads directly (columns 1–3) or after DNase I treatment of the beads (column 4); columns 5–7 show leakage (release in absence of Ca²⁺); columns 8–10 shows Ca²⁺ induced release (cleavage).
