Notes:

a

The immediate effects of the West Coast evaluation on the total sample were not reported by Ellickson and Bell (1990a). Hence, no entry appears in the table (for a summary of the results of a re-analysis of the published data conducted by the National Research Council Committee see Footnote4). The long-term follow-ups refer to those conducted in 9th, 10th and 12th grade (Bell et al., 1993; Ellickson et al., 1993a).

b

Immediate effects of the South Dakota evaluation refer to the 8th grade follow-up (Ellickson et al., 2003) and long-term effects to the 9th and 10th grade follow-ups (Longshore et al., 2007).

c

Statistically significant positive effects were found for all 3 of the outcome variables measured (initiation, weekly use and monthly use).

d

A statistically significant positive effect was found for 1 of the outcome variables measured (initiation) but not for the other 2 (weekly use and monthly use).

e

The immediate effects of the Pennsylvania evaluation refer to the 7th and 8th grade follow-ups and the long-term effects to the 9th grade follow-up (St. Pierre et al., 2005).
