Dystroglycan expression levels influence myoblast motility. (A) Migration of wild-type, knockdown, knockdown control (sense) and dystroglycan-overexpressing myoblast cells was analysed by time-lapse microscopy. Individual cell traces from 30 cells of each genotype are shown. Cells depleted in dystroglycan migrate shorter distances than the control, and cells overexpressing dystroglycan migrate more erratically and for greater distances. At least two independent isolates from each genotype were observed. (B,C) Mean velocity is decreased in dystroglycan-knockdown cells and increased in dystroglycan-overexpressing cells. (D,E) Cellular persistence is reduced in dystroglycan-overexpressing cells resulting in more erratic motion. (In B-E, results are mean ± s.e.m. of 30 cells from at least two independent isolates.)
