Effects of β-adrenoceptor agonists on eicosanoid generation. Mast cells were incubated without or with (A) indacaterol, (B) formoterol or (C) salmeterol for 10 min before challenge with a maximal releasing concentration of anti-IgE (1:300) for a further 25 min. The histamine, PGD₂ and cys-LT content of supernatants were assessed. Results are expressed as the % inhibition of the control (unblocked) generation of a given mediator. Control releases were for histamine 27 ± 4%, for PGD₂ generation 71 ± 19 ng (10⁶ mast cells)⁻¹ and for cys-LT generation 19 ± 5 ng (10⁶ mast cells)⁻¹. Values are means ± SEM, n= 4–11.
