Cross-linking of the surface of TULV virions with membrane-impermeable cross-linker. Native TULV virions, treated with three concentrations of membrane-impermeable cleavable DTSSP linker, were solubilized in Laemmli sample buffer, and proteins were separated by 6% SDS-PAGE under both reducing and nonreducing conditions (samples not boiled). (A) Silver staining (PageSilver Silver Staining Kit; Fermentas) shows bands resolved upon exposure to short (left panel) and long (right panel) periods of staining.
