IL-6 action frees helper and effector T cells from the suppressive effects of IL-10 secreted by Treg cells. High levels of IL-6 protein and its soluble receptor in CRS with nasal polyps suggest the hypothesis that local increases in IL-6 activity may dampen local immunosuppression fostering polyp formation.
