In each cervical sample the mean ± SD of the intensity ratios of all spectra of pattern A or B was determined. For each group, the mean ± SD of the individual means was calculated; these values were compared between groups (t-test). In all comparisons of cell types (normal vs. dysplasia, normal vs. cancer, and dysplasia vs. cancer), significant (P < 0.01) differences were seen in ratios 1,080 cm−1/AmII, 1,026 cm−1/AmI, and 1,026 cm−1/AmII (for pattern A) and in ratios 1,080 cm−1/AmII and 1,080 cm−1/AmI (for pattern B). AmII, amide II; AmI, amide I; ND, not determined.
