An ΔepsH mutation was introduced into some of the reporter strains in this experiment and experiments described below. The ΔepsH mutation prevented formation of bundled cell chains but was known to have little effect on the expression of SinR-controlled genes (Chu et al., 2008, Chu et al., 2006, Kearns et al., 2005).
