Loss of aPKC from apical cell junction during fibre differentiation (E16.5). Optical sections (same field in Fig. 2P) around the equator region of a control lens showing the apical cell junctions of the epithelial (DAPI stained nuclei; blue) and elongating secondary fibre cells. N-cadherin (red) shows apical cell junctions as well as lateral membranes of both epithelial and fibre cells, whereas the apical accumulation of aPKC (green) is detected only in the epithelial cells. Apical membranes of epithelial and fibre cells are distinct especially at the regions indicated (white arrows). The last aPKC signal found in fibre cells is indicated (green arrow).
