Nonstroke control subjects were healthy individuals (n = 12) or had other diseases (Parkinson's disease n = 1, Bell's palsy n = 1, hypertensive crisis n = 1, diabetes mellitus n = 1,or polyneuropathy n = 1).
Infected cohort patients suffered from: 14 pneumonia n = 14, ,fever of unknown origin n = 1, erysipelas n = 1, intravenous catheter abscess n = 1. 3 patients additionally aquired urinary tract infection.
