Virtual S-acylated protein complexes. A number of S-acylated proteins directly interact with each other and form a caveolin-1 complex (A) and a tetraspanin complex (B), suggesting that S-acylated proteins are greatly enriched in the core complexes of caveolae and tetraspanin-enriched microdomains. Cyan, green, and yellow indicate high confidence S-acylated protein candidates identified only by the protein-based procedure, only by the peptide-based procedure, and by both procedures, respectively. White indicates known human S-acylated proteins that were not identified in the present study.
