Concentrations of glucose, acetoin, and 2,3-butanediol in the growth media under anaerobic and respirofermentative conditions for the FY834 and derived bdh1Δ and bdh2Δ yeast strains. The FY834 (wild type), FY bdh1Δ, FY bdh2Δ, and FY bdh1Δ bdh2Δ strains were incubated in rich media containing 15% glucose at 28°C in 200-ml fermentors equipped with fermentation locks with continuous stirring (A) and in 20% glucose at 28°C in an orbital shaker at 250 rpm (B). The growth and compositions of the media were determined at different times. The error bars correspond to the standard deviations of three experiments.
