HPLC analysis reveals that anoxic metabolism of 5 (above) and TPZ (below) in the presence of salicylic acid generates the characteristic hydroxyl radical-derived products 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid and 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid. In vitro metabolism reactions were carried out as described in the Experimental Section.
