Convective flow. Illustrated is the principle of convective flow driven by the lumen to ablumen pressure differential. The applied pressure enhances uniform cell lysis with the transmural flow acting as the carrier of soluble compounds out of the tissue scaffold. The process is further enhanced when a constant transmural flow of fresh solution moves across the membrane. Color images available online at www.liebertonline.com/ten.
