Detergent extracts were prepared from oocytes (and eggs) staged according to Ref. 17. Extract from a single oocyte (or egg) was resolved electrophoretically (along with the equivalent of 50 μg of frog brain protein) for immunoblot analysis as described under “Experimental Procedures.” Approximate masses of these proteins (cgl is cortical granule lectin) are given in kDa.
