Experimental Design. The pre-fMRI training session consisted of three conditions (LOOM, RECEDE, STEADY) whereas the fMRI session tested the two main conditions (LOOM, RECEDE). One trial consisted of a stream of five visual events, four standards and one target. All standards were static discs of ∼500 ms duration; all targets were presented at the fourth position in the stream and varied in duration. In the pre-fMRI session, a target could be a static (steady), a looming or a receding disc. In the fMRI session, a target was either looming or receding. The inter-stimulus intervals (ISI) and the inter-trial intervals (ITI) were all variable.
