XMRV spreads efficiently in LNCaP cells but not 293T cells. (A) Eight-day culture media from LNCaP cells that were transfected with the XMRV provirus were adsorbed onto either naive 293T or LNCaP cells. Virus spreading was monitored over 8 days by immunoblotting supernatants against XMRV CA. XMRV 1:10 culture medium was diluted 10-fold at the time of infection. (B) Same as in panel A, but with monitoring of RT activity over 7 days. On the third day, the cells were diluted and reseeded to allow accumulation of XMRV virus particles. (C) Same as in panel A, but culture media from 293T cells that were transfected with the XMRV provirus were adsorbed onto either naive 293T or LNCaP cells.
