(A) Gold nanoparticles are injected from the catheter to the plaque site, photothermal bubbles are generated around gold nanoparticles upon irradiation with short laser pulse at the wavelength of plasmon resonance, (B) photothermal bubbles mechanically disrupt and remove plaque tissue, thus creating a channel in the plaque.
