(A) S. aureus strain Cowan I–positive control strain with good invasion (100%); (B) S. carnosus–negative control strain showing no invasion, The percentage of cells containing intracellular S. carnosus is subtracted from that of all other Staphylococcus isolates including the Cowan I control (0%); (C) S. aureus isolate A7–highly invasive strain (172.3% of Cowan I); (D) S. aureus isolate G86–cell internalization rate comparable to the positive control strain (107.8% of Cowan I); (E) S. aureus isolate G76–very low invasive strain (24.7% of Cowan I); (F) S. aureus isolate G43–non-invasive strain (9.2% of Cowan I, below 20%).
