Plasma SIV RNA was assessed using a real-time RT-PCR assay and SIV RNA and DNA from lymphoid tissue biopsies were assayed by RT-PCR and PCR. Biopsy RNA and DNA were amplified with the Rhesus Monkey GAPDH kit (Applied Biosystems Inc) to confirm the nucleic acids were amplifiable (data not shown).
