Appearance of new trabeculae in femoral diaphysis induced by elevated levels of Sonic hedgehog (Shh). Femurs were harvested 18 days after intravenous administration of an adenovirus vector encoding a soluble form of Shh (AdShhN), a control vector with no transgene (AdNull), or vehicle (phosphate-buffered saline, PBS) to C57BL/6 mice, fixed and stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and examined by brightfield microscopy.
