Table 2.

Temperature-sensitive paralysis of 1C12 swimmers. As shown by the percentage of swimmers in the liquid culture, 1C12 swimmers, either from the log-phase or stationary-phase culture, became completely paralyzed within 1 hr after transferring to the water bath at 32°C. The motile fraction was greatly reduced at 28 °C as well. Each number was obtained from the average of six randomly chosen fields.
