In an early phase after ECTV infection (around day 8–20) NK cells, CD4 T cells and antibodies are needed to confer protection after post-exposure MVA immunization. The requirement for IgG can be partly overcome by the production of high amounts of IgM. In a second phase starting around day 21 CD8 T cells become essential. (dpi = day post infection)
