Reflectance and corresponding fluorescence images of internal rhodamine labels at five different positions within thiolated 51-base oligonucleotides attached to Au/Ag encoded metal nanowires. Unlabeled complementary strands were hybridized in 0.3 M PBS buffer. The numbers in the images indicate which DNA base is labeled for each nanowire pattern (e.g., wires with bright Ag ends and a dark Au middle in the reflectance image are coated with DNA labeled at the 24th base). Five separate samples were mixed after DNA attachment to obtain this image.
