Data are expressed as percentages and represent the mean and standard error for all asymmetric synapses falling into each category, derived from examination in three animals per age group (214, 253, and 275 synapses from the three adult animals and 170, 119, and 123 synapses from the three PD 7 animals, respectively). The AMPAR labeling categories are as illustrated in Figure 5A: ++, intense; +, moderate; +/−, minimal/absent. Synapses were considered α7nAChR positive if two or more 10 nm gold particles were seen over the postsynaptic density and synaptic cleft combined.
