Comparison of temperature profile and tissue injury calculation. The figure shows a comparison of the temperature and its corresponding tissue injury from an application of a 30 volt source at 2 min, 15 min, and 30 hours (infinite) time calculated by considering transient changes resulting from thermal injury (recursive thermal injury). The figure demonstrates that although the temperature profile does not vary much after 15 minutes, the corresponding tissue injury changes considerably. Under steady state conditions, the tissue injury calculations predict a lesion size that far exceeds the size of lesion sizes generated under more clinically relevant timeframes.
