Leakage induced upon addition of bolaampiphile to vesicles containing carboxyfluorescein (50 mM). To 25 µM of 8:2 POPC:Cholestrol vesicles in TES buffer (5 mM TES, 100 mM NaCl, pH 7.4) was added 10 µM of para-isomer 6 (■) or meta-isomer 7 (✕) at 50 sec, and the vesicles were lysed by addition of Triton X-100 at 1150 sec. Repeating the experiment with amphiphiles 4, 5, and 8 yielded the same result as 7, that is no leakage.
