Reaction of thiophene with 1,5-hexadiene (A) and allyl radical (B). (A) The nozzle was pulsed but not heated. The unreacted thiophene radical cation is of m/z 84. (B) The nozzle was pulsed and heated (800 °C), producing neutral allyl radical, which reacted with thiophene radical cation to give the m/z 97 ion.
