The daughter arrester strain can enrich a yeast cell population in older cells. (A) Starting populations of two cells—one mother and daughter—were tracked over time and the percentage of original mother cells (highest replicative age) in the total population was calculated. In the absence of drug (red), the percentage sharply drops over time, while in the presence of drug (green) it decreases significantly less over time. (B) The replicative age distribution after 8 h of cell growth in the absence (green) and presence of drug (red) shows that the age distribution is radically skewed in the presence of drug.
