The closed and open forms are colored in cyan and orange, respectively. Camphor is only present in the closed form. Waters shown in red are only present in the open form. In the closed camphor-bound state the heme is 5-coordinate with only Cys357 as proximal ligand, while in the open conformations the heme is 6-coordinate, with a distally coordinated water shown bound to the iron.
