A. Projections made from a typical nonplanar canal show an alternating between a bending and a twisting as the viewing direction is rotated. The nonplanarity metric used in the study is the range of angles which the tangential path makes with the average canal plane. This range is approximately equal to the range of angles made by the 45° projection shown in B.
