Cofactor activity of CFH bound to either BpcA or intact B. parkeri spirochetes. Functional activity of CFH was analyzed by measuring factor I-mediated conversion of C3b to iC3b. CFH bound to the surface of intact B. parkeri spirochetes (A) or BpcA-coated microtiter plates (B) was incubated with C3b and factor I. Reaction mixtures were separated by 10% SDS-PAGE and transferred to nitrocellulose membranes.
