Reaction scheme showing the two partial reactions that comprise the overall pyruvate carboxylation reaction. Reaction [1] is the ATP-dependent carboxylation of biotin by bicarbonate that occurs at the BC domain. Reaction [2] is the reaction in which the carboxy group is transferred from carboxybiotin to pyruvate in the CT domain.
