‘Perturb and rescue’ by type 2 cannabinoid receptor ligands. Exposure of embryos at the 2-cell stage to a relatively low dose of the type 2 cannabinoid agonist, WIN552122, causes a severe malformation phenotype, where embryos remain at the blastula stage with dark (likely dead) cells (∗) in the blastocoel (C). This phenotype can be completely rescued by the type 2 cannabinoid antagonist, SR144528 (D). A Vehicle control (EtOH, 0.03%); B SR144528 (2.5 μM); C WIN (5 μM); D WIN + SR144528. Scale bar = 20 μm.
