Values are means ± SE. For all studies in every implanted group, arterial Po₂ (Pa_O2) was uniformly decreased (P < 0.05) during hypoxia, with a return to control levels during room air recovery. In LPBN and MPBN goats during all studies and in KFN goats before and after implant of the cannula, metabolic rate (V̇o₂) and body temperature during hypoxia were increased significantly (

^*P < 0.05) relative to control values. However in KFN goats, V̇o₂ and body temperature were unchanged from control levels during hypoxia subsequent to Atr MD studies and IA injection studies.
