BLT1 mediates retinal microvascular endothelial cell death. When cultured under physiologic glucose conditions, the addition of 100 nM LTB₄ to mRECs increased mREC death, as determined by trypan blue exclusion assay (*P < 0.005). Inclusion of the BLT1 antagonist U75302 completely inhibited the effect of LTB₄ on cell death (*P < 0.005). When mRECs were cultured under high-glucose conditions, an increase in cell death was noted, and the addition of LTB₄ further increased the observed cell death (HG vs. NG, *P < 0.005; HG vs. HG + LTB₄, **P < 0.03). U75302 treatment significantly reduced mREC cell death in the presence of high glucose and LTB₄ (*P < 0.005). Data are the summary of six independent experiments.
