Effect of alkylphospholipids on the biosynthesis of cholesterol. HepG2 cells growing in log-phase were treated with 25 µM HePC, edelfosine, ErPC or perifosine for 24 h in MEM/10% FBS or without any additions (control). [1-14C]acetate (3.4 µM, 60 Ci·mol−1) was added during the last 6 h incubation period. The incorporation of acetate into cholesterol was determined. Results are expressed as pmol of acetate incorporated per mg of cell protein and represent the mean ± SEM of two independent experiments conducted in triplicate. *P < 0.001 when compared with control values.
